The 7 Qualities to Look for in a
Translator
- Good to excellent writing skills in the target language in
addition to formal and colloquial knowledge of both languages
- Eagerness to research, organize glossaries and access
bilingual, monolingual and specialized dictionaries and other sources of
information like CD-ROMs, magazines, business reports, scientific
articles, newspapers, etc.
- Has current computer and office equipment that is able to
satisfy the client's' demands for accurate and fast communication.
(i.e., fax, modem, e-mail, Web access, etc.)
- Markets self through reputable agencies
- Belongs to relevant professional organizations, has obtained
accreditation to be in their directories, participates in continued
education courses and attends conferences
- Is current with the new technology that is available, such
as machine translation, and other software translating aids that might
enhance productivity
- Has own translation work reviewed by qualified
colleagues
